Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how bakasan.art ("the Site," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects your information. The Site presents the artwork of Donald "Bakasan" Peterman and offers community features including posts, comments, polls, direct messages, and user profiles.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you register, we collect your email address, a display name you choose, and a password (stored in hashed form by our authentication provider — we never see or store your plain-text password). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account.
Profile information. You may optionally add a bio, location, and website to your profile. This information is visible to other visitors.
Content you create. Posts, replies, poll votes, likes, bookmarks, follows, uploaded images, and direct messages are stored on our servers. Posts, replies, and profile information are publicly visible. Direct messages are visible only to you and the recipient.
Location data. If you choose to attach a location to a post, your browser will ask for permission first. The approximate place name is determined using OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service and attached to your post. We do not track your location otherwise.
Automatically collected data. Our service providers collect standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, and access times for security and operational purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and operate your account and the community features
- To display your posts, profile, and interactions to other users
- To deliver notifications (likes, replies, follows, messages)
- To send account emails, such as password reset messages
- To protect the Site against abuse, spam, and security threats
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for third-party advertising.
3. Service Providers
The Site is built on the following services, each of which processes data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, and Storage) — hosts accounts, content, and uploaded images. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- GitHub Pages — serves the website. See GitHub's Privacy Statement.
- Google Fonts — provides typefaces; your browser requests font files from Google's servers.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — converts coordinates to place names only when you choose to tag a post with a location.
4. Cookies and Local Storage
The Site uses browser local storage and similar technologies solely to keep you signed in and remember interface preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Your content remains on the Site until you delete it. You can delete your own posts at any time. To delete your account and associated data, contact us at the address below and we will process the request within 30 days.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live (including under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the EU General Data Protection Regulation), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
7. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and database security rules that restrict who can read and write each type of data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
